Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director of Peer Education and Learning Innovation and housed within the Office of Active Learning, the Coordinator of Peer Tutoring plays a key role in coordinating and implementing the Peer Tutoring Program. The Peer Tutoring Program is a campuswide academic support initiative designed to enhance student success by providing coursespecific, peerled academic support across multiple disciplines. The program reinforces active learning within course contexts and extends active learning beyond the classroom. The program supports undergraduate students through structured tutoring services that reinforce course content, promote effective learning strategies, and contribute to student retention and academic achievement.

This position facilitates the implementation and operations of the Peer Tutoring program and leads the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of undergraduate Peer Tutors. The Coordinator works closely with campus partners, faculty, and OSSA staff as well as colleagues supporting Peer Learning Assistants and Academic Coaching to manage program logistics, maintain policies and records, support program assessment, and ensure consistent communication with stakeholders.

The Coordinator serves as a primary operational point of contact for students, faculty, and campus partners participating in the Peer Tutoring Program and assists in implementing program initiatives designed to strengthen a largescale academic support program that enhances student learning, promotes academic success, supports leadership development among undergraduate Peer Tutors, and functions as an integrated component of UGA's student engagement ecosystem.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Understanding of student development theory, academic coaching, holistic student support, and student success, with demonstrated experience implementing student-focused programs and workshops.
  • Awareness of the unique needs of different student populations, and the ability to plan and deliver responsive programming that enhances their academic and personal success.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to coordinate logistics and execute events and programs with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and digital communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with various student populations and campus stakeholders.
  • Experience recruiting, training, and supervising student staff, including providing constructive feedback and supporting their professional development.
  • Comfortable using campus systems, digital communication tools, social media platforms, and basic design or web content tools to support programming and outreach.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams in a dynamic, fast- paced environment and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Interest in or experience with AI and/or VRenabled student support tools is preferred.

Program Coordination and Operations
  • Serve as the primary operational point of contact for Peer Tutoring program inquiries from students, faculty, and campus partners.
  • Coordinate tutoring schedules, session formats, and space reservations to ensure accessible and effective service delivery.
  • Maintain and update tutoring records, participation data, and program tracking systems using Penji, ensuring accurate documentation of student engagement, session attendance, and program utilization for reporting and assessment purposes.
  • Support the administration of CRLA certification processes, including tracking completion of requirements.
  • Oversee program communication and outreach efforts to promote tutor recruitment, increase program visibility, and support engagement across academic departments.
  • Maintain program documentation, including policies, procedures, and operational resources.
  • Conduct outreach to academic departments to support program awareness and utilization in collaboration the Associate Director of Peer Education and Learning Innovation
  • Maintain scheduling, session tracking, and communication systems that enable reliable, scalable delivery across disciplines while ensuring alignment with program policies, CRLA standards, and institutional expectations.
  • Collaborate with Associate Director and campus partners to build a scalable CLR framework that recognizes Peer Tutor participation as a highimpact practice, aligning with institutional competencies.

Personnel Coordination and Student Staff Supervision
  • Lead recruitment processes to support the hiring of at least 150 Peer Tutors, including application review and candidate communication.
  • Facilitate onboarding and role preparation for newly hired Peer Tutors, including employment documentation, training expectations, and program orientation.
  • Provide supervision, performance assessment, and guidance to ensure effective tutor performance and program outcomes, including addressing concerns with students and faculty in coordination with program leadership, while supporting leadership development among participating students.
  • Support the ongoing development of student leadership within the program, including coordination of Lead Peer Tutor responsibilities and mentorship opportunities.
  • Approve student payroll for Peer Tutor employees.
  • Provide performance feedback, ensure compliance, and address concerns in coordination with program leadership.

Training, Resources, and Pedagogical Alignment
  • Maintain the Peer Tutor orientation and training materials within the learning management system (eLC).
  • Monitor completion of required Peer Tutor training components to ensure program readiness and participation standards.
  • Support ongoing Peer Tutor professional development through workshops, eLC training modules, and peer-led learning opportunities that promote academic success, leadership development, and professional skill building for participating students.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of student-facing training materials and resource guides.
  • Contribute to the facilitation and continuous improvement of the Peer Tutoring training course, supporting the development of tutors' instructional skills and alignment with program standards.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to strengthen tutoring practices and expand student support resources, enhancing the effectiveness and reach of academic support services.

Deliver and refine tutor training aligned with active learning principles beyond the UNIV 1204 course, and collaborate with faculty and the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) to align tutoring practices with course design and instructional goals.

Program Assessment, Continuous Improvement, and Marketing Support
  • Collect and organize program participation data to support program evaluation, reporting, and future planning in collaboration with the Associate Director of Peer Education and Learning Innovation
  • Monitor program feedback submitted by faculty and students and respond to concerns or questions.
  • Maintain systems for collecting and tracking program feedback.
  • Assist in communicating program policies, expectations, and updates to stakeholders.
  • Participate in meetings with campus partners supporting the PLA program to share updates and discuss program operations.
  • Provide programlevel insights to the Associate Director of Peer Education and Learning Innovation to inform portfolio-wide assessment, continuous improvement, and CRLA compliance.
  • Support social media and marketing efforts by promoting the program and increasing awareness of services and opportunities.

AI and VREnabled Tutoring, Integrated Course & Student Support
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Peer Education and Learning Innovation and campus partners to integrate AI and VR tutoring technologies that support peer tutoring.
  • Coordinate with faculty, Peer Learning Assistants, and Academic Coaching to ensure tutoring complements inclass active learning and broader student engagement efforts.

Support consistent messaging and referral pathways that connect tutoring to classroom expectations and student success initiatives.

Outreach, Strategic Support, and Unit Engagement
  • Serve as an Academic Coach as needed.
  • Collaborate with Peer Education staff supporting the Peer Learning Assistant program and other peer education initiatives.
