Job summary

Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, TN seeks a Coordinator of Accessible Technology to provide technical assistance, training, and support for students, faculty, staff and administrators in implementing accessible technologies across campus. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Experience with assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers, magnifiers) preferred.
  • Higher education experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with disabilities in acquiring accessible formats and loaning equipment.
  • Train students and faculty in the use of assistive technologies.
  • Serve as liaison to administrators and staff on accessibility initiatives.
  • Collaborate with IT, Distributed Education and Web Design to promote universal access.

  • Oversee intake, scheduling and administration of accommodated testing.

Job Summary:

This position provides technical assistance, training and supportto students, faculty, staff and administrators of the College inthe implementation of appropriate assistive technologies across alllocations to meet the access needs of the campus community. TheCoordinator also coordinates and manages accommodated testingrequests through the Access Center, ensuring appropriate testingaccommodations are implemented in accordance with institutionalpolicies and disability services guidelines. TheCoordinatorsupports the College's efforts to develop, implement, and maintainaccessibility standards for electronic and information technology.This position also assists in coordinating compliance initiativesto promote accessible digital experiences for all users.

Job Duties:

Assist students with disabilities in the acquisition of alternativeeducational formats, including ordering, maintaining and creatingaccessible materials, as needed. Train students with disabilitiesin the implementation and use of appropriate assistive technologiesto meet individual access needs and manage student equipment loansand returns. Train faculty in the use of assistive technologies forthe classroom to facilitate positive teaching and learningexperiences and provide access and equal educational opportunityfor all students. Serve as liaison to administrators, faculty andstaff regarding initiatives to make the campus more accessible,including conducting trainings and providing input in matters ofprocurement. Collaborate with other units that have accessibletechnology responsibilities within the College, especiallyInformation Technology, Distributed Education and Web Design, inpromoting universal access, supporting implementation of assistivetechnologies across campus and planning for new software/hardware.Assist in monitoring compliance with state and federal lawsregarding accessible electronic and information technology,specifically WCAG 2.1, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act andthe ADAAA. Provide support in the implementation and revision ofthe institution's Accessibility Policies and Procedures. Thisincludes providing input for Alternative Access Plans whenmaterials do not meet accessibility guidelines. Support thetechnical needs of the Access Center including test proctoring.Travel to regional campuses to provide assistive technologyservices and testing support as needed. Oversee the intake,scheduling, coordination, and administration of accommodatedtesting services. Serve on appropriate committees, including theComputing and Technology Committee, and participate in professionaldevelopment opportunities. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • One year of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience with assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers,note-taking software, magnifiers).
  • Prior experience in higher education.
  • Prior teaching or training experience.
  • Prior experience with accommodated testing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong end-user computer skills in both hardware andsoftware.
  • Working knowledge of accessibility standards and disability law inhigher education.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Experience reviewing, scheduling, and coordinating testingappointments or other services that require collaboration amongmultiple stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Pay Rate:

$48,694 - $60,868 annual salarydepending on experience
