Job summary

Daytona State College is seeking a coordinator to manage the COMPASS mentoring program and Falcons Student Success initiatives. You will match mentors and mentees, train mentors, and connect students with college and community resources to improve retention and graduation outcomes.

You will document activities, compile reports, and collaborate with Academic Affairs and Enrollment Services to support student success across campus and external partnerships. Evening/weekend flexibility is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in supervision and management, business administration, student personnel services or related field.
  • Two (2) years of related work experience coordinating and/or implementing student retention services and case management in a professional environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee COMPASS mentoring program services and activities, manage mentor-mentee matching, and process communications.
  • Recruit, train and evaluate mentors; refer students to college/community resources as needed.
  • Document mentoring activities, generate periodic impact reports, and ensure best practices and standards are maintained.
  • Oversee Falcon Student Success Program and support foster youth and homeless students with a case-management approach.
  • Maintain records in college systems, respond to Early Alerts, and support retention initiatives across departments.
  • Facilitate New Student Advising Sessions and participate in Retention and Hunger/Homelessness Committees.

Job description

  • Bachelor’s degree in supervision and management, business administration, student personnel services or related field.
  • Two (2) years of related work experience coordinating and/or implementing student retention services and case management in a professional environment.

  • Responsible for developing, facilitating, promoting, implementing and overseeing the COMPASS mentoring program services and activities. Manage the mentor-mentee matching process including processing applications and communications for mentors and mentees. Manage the evaluation and assessment process for the mentoring program and its participants. Serve as the College's liaison for the mentoring program both internal and external to the College community. Ensure the mentoring best practices, standards and protocols are established and maintained.
  • Recruit, screen, and provide training to all COMPASS program mentors. Maintain a database of mentors as well as a resource list of existing College mentoring programs. Serve as a referral point between mentees and mentors, collaborates with Academic Coaches and other College departments to address mentoring needs, questions, and concerns. Refer students to college and community resources as needed.
  • Document and track mentoring program activities. Compiles mentoring program information and prepares periodic mentoring impact/data reports including weekly, monthly, and annual reports as needed. Execute evaluation and feedback of the mentoring program and compile and report results. Identify and implement areas of continuous improvement within the mentorship program. Participates in the creation, development, preparation, and distribution of marketing materials promoting COMPASS and the mentoring program. Maintain the Mentoring website in collaboration with the College's marketing department.
  • Oversee and facilitate the Falcon Student Success Program and serve as the primary contact and resource for A.A. college students, first-generation college students and other designated student populations identified through student retention and student success initiatives. Serve as the College’s liaison for foster youth and students experiencing homeless. Support these students using a case management approach to assess needs, identify barriers, and connect students to college and community resources to assist with retention and completion. Provide these students with regular outreach and timely communications each semester about important college deadlines and relevant information for campus events and activities. Maintain the Falcon Student Success Program website in collaboration with the College's marketing department.
  • Maintain accurate records and document all student outreach and interactions in Who’s Next, Target X, PeopleSoft and other college electronic databases and systems. Maintain qualitative and quantitative student progress and compiles data for routine reporting. Maintain all relevant data and records for student retention program including workshops, events, professional development and activities including student participation and attendance data for routine reporting as required. Effective use of appropriate college software systems to respond to Early Alerts, follow up with faculty and students and track and monitor students' academic progress.
  • Facilitate New Student Advising Sessions. Implement a follow-up process with students after these Advising Sessions and provide referrals to other College departments as needed to support the College's retention efforts and student success.
  • Serve as a member of the College’s Retention Committee and Hunger and Homelessness Committee. Attend meetings to exchange information and support retention initiatives. Promote services, programs, activities, and projects within the college community to assist students with retention. Work collaboratively with Academic Affairs, Enrollment Services and Student Development to support students transition into college and to provide students with workshops, presentations, professional development and special events to assist with student retention.
  • Promotes the Falcon HOPE Center and retention services by attending college and community activities and events, such as Welcome Back events, Homecoming, Student Development events and Admissions events. Assist Student Development as required for events, activities and student support. Attend trainings, professional classes, seminars, or conferences to improve professional skills. Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends and on all DSC campus locations.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned and directed by the President or their designee.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of student advising, academic monitoring, and student follow-up procedures.
  • Must have strong experience in report writing, as well as proficiency in Excel and computer database systems.
  • Must be able to relate and work with adult students individually and in small groups.
  • Must exercise good judgment and possess excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Must have strong organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work in a multiple task environment.
  • Must maintain positive relations with students and staff.
