Job summary

Smurfit Westrock plc in Conover, NC is seeking a Material Coordinator to order and maintain production materials, oversee inventory levels, and generate purchase orders. You will own materials flow from start to finish with a focus on reducing inventory levels while maintaining production efficiency.

Responsibilities include creating POs, tracking deliveries, and resolving pricing issues, plus supporting continuous improvement and 5S practices.

Qualifications

• Experience creating and managing purchase orders with suppliers.
• Strong inventory management knowledge and material coordination.
• Proficiency in Excel and ERP/MRP systems preferred.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional teamwork abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of 5S and continuous improvement practices preferred.

• Participate in periodic inventory counts as required.
• Create POs for vendors, track and report delivery issues.
• Ensure PO completion and resolve AP and pricing issues as needed.
• Report material scheduling issues to customer service, scheduling, and production.
• Maintain reports, databases, and tracking of required metrics.
• Provide support to other Material Coordinators.
• Conduct ad hoc analysis as requested by management.

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Responsible for ordering and maintaining materials needed for production. Daily overseeing for accurate inventory levels and generate PO’s for items needing ordered. Providing solutions and ideas on how additional improvements can be made to help with reducing inventory levels. 100% ownership from start to finish on materials/supplies purchased.

Maintain housekeeping and 5S to standards set by management. Follow all WestRock Core Values and Behaviors. Additional job duties as assigned by department manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience creating and managing purchase orders and working with suppliers/vendors.
• Strong understanding of inventory management and material coordination.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; ERP/MRP system experience preferred.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate records, reports, and inventory data.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with multiple departments.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of 5S and continuous improvement practices preferred.
