Coordinator for Black Male Engagement

Xavier University of Louisiana invites applications for the position of Coordinator for Black Male Engagement (CBME). The CBME will develop, cultivate, and sustain meaningful relationships with campus stakeholders, community organizations, alumni, professional associations, and national networks that support the success of Black and Brown male students. As the University's lead advocate for Black Male Engagement initiatives, the CBME will serve as the primary liaison to programs and partners such as Men of Xavier, University Athletics, NPHC fraternities, mentorship organizations, faith-based and community groups, and national initiatives including organizations similar to 100 Black Men of America, Son of a Saint, and Kingmakers of Oakland.

Through these strategic partnerships, the CBME will create opportunities for mentorship, leadership development, academic support, civic engagement, and professional networking designed to promote an ecosystem of belonging and leadership that supports Black male persistence from retention through alumni hood.

Through intentional relationship-building and cross-functional collaboration, the CBME, curates programs, services, and high-impact experiences that strengthen engagement and retention while preparing students to lead with integrity, serve with humility, and contribute to the creation of a more just and humane society.

The CBME reports to the Deputy Chief Inclusion Officer and contributes to the broader mission of the Office of Inclusion and Social Justice through advocacy, community engagement, leadership development, and assessment-driven practice. EOE/AA

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree, two-five years full-time progressive experience in knowledge and practice of student development theory, working in an educational setting, and program development.

Demonstrated ability and skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relations, advising student organizations, event planning, interacting effectively with a diverse constituency of student, faculty, staff, and administrators, working effectively under pressure, technology and budget management. Expertise in public speaking, writing, group facilitation and computer skills. Extended evening and/or weekend hours may be required to fulfill responsibilities and participate in/supervision of university, division, or department activities, events, and special projects.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop creative and innovative approaches to student engagement and success.

Special Requirements Summary

Must be able to work a flexible work schedule. Evening and weekend schedule is routine for this position to meet with and/or supervise activities of student groups and to participate in/supervise other student life activities, university events, and special projects. Must have valid driver's license. Must be able to operate 15-passenger van and obtain necessary driving certification for university vehicles.
