Class Description
Oversees the functions of the Fitness Lab within the WellnessDepartment. Ensuring that all individuals using the Fitness Lab’scardiovascular and weight equipment are taught proper lifting andspotting techniques. Verifying that only approved individuals usethe facility.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in the field of health, physical education,kinesiology, wellness or related field required, Master’s Degreepreferred. Demonstrated experience in the use of fitness equipmentin a fitness lab. Taught at least two college level courses in thefield of health, physical education, kinesiology or wellness;experience working with a diverse student body. Preferredexperience includes: coordination/monitoring of a fitness lab,evidence of continuous professional development and applicablecertifications, such as: American Council on Exercise, NationalStrength and Conditioning Association, American College of SportsMedicine. Experience with student supervision or age appropriatelygroups, exercise development and prescription, and successfulimplementation of wellness initiatives.

Class Specific Essential Duties
- Monitor all individuals within the facility by planning anddirecting physical conditioning programs that will enable athletesto achieve maximum performance.
- Ensure proper usage of all equipment by the patrons.
- Conduct health history interviews and stratifying risk forcardiovascular disease with clients in order to determine the needfor referral and identify contraindications for exercise.
- Provide training, direction, demonstration, encouragement,motivation, and nutritional advice to athletes and patrons.
- Educate patrons about fitness and health related topics to helpthem in adopting healthful behaviors that facilitate exerciseprogram success.
- Evaluate and ensure that programs are safe, effective andappropriate for individuals who are healthy or have medicalclearance to exercise.
- Monitor proper lifting, exercise techniques and spotting by thepatrons.
- Maintain operation and efficiency of all equipment.
- Keep abreast of changing exercise techniques, technologies andphilosophies relevant to fitness facility.
- Report any equipment failure to appropriate supervisor andensure repairs are completed by industry certifiedtechnicians.
- Provide a welcoming, educational environment, which providesexcellent customer service.
- Recognizing what is within the scope of practice and alwaysreferring clients to other healthcare professions whenappropriate.
- Respond to patron’s requests for information related towellness programs and the fitness lab.
- Maintain wellness and fitness related schedules, records, andreports.
- Being prepared for emergency situations and respondingappropriately when they occur.
