Job summary

American Electric Power in Ohio seeks a Coordinator to support outages, field work and project planning under supervision, applying technical knowledge safely and efficiently.

Senior role expands to coordinating external contractors, leading meetings, developing cost estimates, and ensuring compliance with policies; travel >50% is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited university or college; OR Associate's technical degree and 3 years of experience in design, operations, planning, construction, or maintenance of systems and/or equipment; OR High school diploma or GED and 5 years of experience in design, operations, planning, construction, or maintenance of systems and/or equipment.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in work activities and projects requiring technical knowledge.
  • Coordinator Senior: 6+ years of experience in design, operations, planning, construction, or maintenance of systems and/or equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate work activities of others within the work group, team or those external to the company including contractors and vendors as required to resolve routine technical tasks and field work activities.
  • Perform varied assignments demonstrating technical knowledge and analytical techniques to solve problems or analysis.
  • Participate in the planning and organization of outage/project work activities.
  • Make decisions and contribute to team decision making and consensus building.
  • Monitor labor relation activities; develop and maintain rapport to assure cooperation and productive working relationships with contractors.
  • Work with others in both supplying information and seeking assistance as necessary.
  • Provide training and guidance to lower-level employees as appropriate.
  • Pursue effective ways to protect and enhance the environment while providing reliable electricity at a competitive cost.

Coordinator Responsibilities

  • Monitors Work and Asset Management to ensure that work is performed in accordance with established policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to work beyond routine assignments by solving moderately complex problems.
  • Works independently in resolving complex problems.
  • Participates in providing training, performance improvements for projects and activities of lower level employees or peers.
  • Develops and maintains rapport to assure cooperation and productive working relationships with customers.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work beyond routine assignments by solving problems of moderate complexity.
  • Effectively manages conflict and builds consensus for agreement concerning business and/or work issues.
  • Clearly and concisely develops and presents or reviews reports with customers as needed.

  • Provides input to routine project planning and schedule.
  • Understands the use of scheduling techniques for budget and planning activities.
  • Assists in the planning of outages/projects/assignments.
  • Participates in AEP and associated contractor's meetings covering outage/project schedule, safety issues and operations and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assists in evaluating contracting methods, reviewing drawings and preparing basic cost estimates using established standards.
  • Monitors work according to schedule and recommend necessary actions.
Coordinator Education
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited university or college;
  • OR Associate's technical degree and 3 years of experience in design, operations, planning, construction, or maintenance of systems and/or equipment;
  • OR High school diploma or GED and 5 years of experience in design, operations, planning, construction, or maintenance of systems and/or equipment.
Coordinator Work Experience
  • Typically requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in work activities and projects requiring technical knowledge.
Coordinator Senior Education
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited university or college;
  • OR Associate's technical degree and 6 years of experience in design, operations, planning, construction, or maintenance of systems and/or equipment;
  • OR High school diploma or GED and 8 years of experience in design, operations, planning, construction, or maintenance of systems and/or equipment.
Coordinator Senior Work Experience
  • Typically requires a minimum of 6 years of experience in work activities and projects requiring technical knowledge.
Coordinator -Senior Other Requirements
  • Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the Company's Corporate Compliance Policy.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills backed by an enthusiastic approach and a diligent client focus.
  • Ability to interface and work well with different levels of individual contributors and management is required.
  • Experience in business unit operations and business acumen strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of business unit financial and operations systems and databases preferred.
  • Is proactive in responsibilities and does not wait for direction from management to conduct work.
  • Must be available to work overtime, call-out overtime and shift work, as required.
  • Travel requirements are expected > 50 % of the time.
  • Physical demand level is Sedentary.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Listen and identify customer needs/wants.
  • Effectively communicate with team, management, customers, contractors, vendors and regulatory agencies.
  • Knowledge of AEP's general terms and conditions and the experience and ability to correctly interpret and administer contracts.
  • Apply problem solving skills to resolve technical problems and initiate solution techniques.
  • Demonstrate an attitude and desire to listen to and satisfy both internal and external customers who use and depend upon our work.
  • Position requires working outside in all types of weather and exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Position may require extended hours to accomplish assigned tasks and meet project/outage requirements and schedules.
  • Extensive travel required and possible relocation.

Compensation Data
