Job Description

Primary Purpose

Work under minimal supervision in the Public Relations department to organize and perform the routine work activities of public and community relations. Coordinate digital communication for the district, as well as written communication and events.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, advertising, or related field preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Demonstrated skills in writing, editing, and proofreading
  • Excellent public relations, organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use software for graphic design and video production
  • Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records
  • Ability to meet established deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks often changing assignments on short notice with little or no direction.

Experience

  • At least three years’ experience in related field

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Publications and Information Services

  • Graphic design for district-level publications
  • Assist with writing copy for brochures and publications produced by Public Relations department.
  • Read copy to detect errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax.
  • Assist with production, publication, and distribution of district publications and news releases.
  • Take photographs for district publications, presentations, and displays. Record meetings or programs (both video and audio) throughout the district.

Event Preparation

  • Support in planning and executing events throughout the district.
  • Design and implement flyers for designated programs and events
  • Event set‑up and tear down
  • Work with vendors, volunteers, and others to execute events.

Social Media

  • Generate, create, edit, publish and share daily content (original text, images, video or TML) that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action.
  • Set up and optimize district pages within each platform to increase the visibility of the district’s social content.
  • Moderate all user‑generated content in line with the moderation policy for the district.
  • Continuously improve by capturing and analyzing the appropriate social data/metrics, insights, and best practices, and then act on the information.
  • Moderate, interact and collaborate with other departments (athletics, CTE, fine arts, academic leaders, etc.) to manage reputation, identify key players and coordinate actions.

Records, Reports, and Correspondence

  • Maintain a log of media calls and information requests.
  • Prepare correspondence, forms, reports, etc., for the department heads and other department staff members using personal computer.
  • Compile pertinent data as needed when preparing various state and local reports.
  • Maintain physical and computerized departmental files.

Other

  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Work collaboratively for special assignments, special events and special projects as needed.
  • Maintain professional interactions with staff, parents, community and visitors.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to change in routine and adapt quickly to changing situations.
  • Demonstrates respect, courteous to peers and visitors and assist fellow workers willingly.
  • Report to work in a timely manner according to assigned schedule.
  • Avoid speaking badly about the district and district personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assist with supervising department secretarial staff
