Job summary

Duval County Public Schools is seeking a Coordinator, Buyer, Purchasing Services to coordinate purchasing of school supplies and services. You will evaluate suppliers to ensure best pricing and manage bids in a high-volume government purchasing environment.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree (preferred) and at least 1 year of relevant experience. The salary is set at $58,656 per year, with duties including supervising staff, processing POs, and training end users on procurement processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in high-volume government agency purchasing is required, or two years’ relevant business experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of procurement laws, rules, and directives related to procurement.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Inputs data to create and process purchase orders using procurement system.
  • Solicits, receives, tabulates, and evaluates bids to determine most desirable suppliers. Prepares and reviews bid solicitation packages for conformity with guidelines.
  • Reviews purchase requisitions for informal purchases and processes or assigns to Assistant Buyer.
  • Supervises and trains assigned staff, conducts performance appraisals, makes employment and discipline recommendations, and coordinates work assignments.
  • Determines appropriate methods and sources for procuring materials, supplies, and equipment. Advises School District personnel on sourcing and procurement of such items.
  • Conducts meetings and/or training sessions with end users, potential vendors, and/or Bookkeepers on bid requirements/specifications, products, and/or procurement system training.
  • Recommends awards or other bid dispositions and prepares award recommendations. Attends, conducts, and/or presides over bid openings.
  • Serves as SAP Super User liaison for Purchasing. Creates new Purchasing Card profiles. Attends group meetings; participates in system testing, changes, and upgrades. Provides troubleshooting on system errors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
