Job summary

Job description

The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting for a Coordinator, Artificial Intelligence.

Under the direction of an assigned administrator, the Coordinator, Artificial Intelligence (AI) leads the planning, development, coordination, and implementation of the San Diego County Office of Education’s (SDCOE) countywide AI strategy and engagement initiatives, promoting the ethical, equitable, transparent, and effective adoption of artificial intelligence in K–12 education and serves as the primary liaison among SDCOE staff, school districts, charter schools, students, families, community organizations, and external partners; coordinates the SDCOE North Star AI Task Force and related working groups to advance organizational AI strategy, policy, and governance; and designs and delivers professional learning, outreach events, and communication resources that build AI literacy and trust across San Diego County.

Because AI policy continues to evolve at every level, the Coordinator, Artificial Intelligence (AI), stays closely informed about state, federal, and national laws and guidance. By monitoring developments from agencies such as the California Department of Education and U.S. Department of Education, the Coordinator helps ensure that SDCOE and its districts have access to the most current and reliable information.

The current assignment is located in San Diego, CA as part of the Integrated Technology Services department in the Integrated Technology Services division within SDCOE.

Please note that while this current assignment is for the location listed, employees of SDCOE may be administratively reassigned to other locations based on organizational needs.

Requirements / Qualifications

This position requires a combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, communications, public administration, public policy, educational technology, information science, or a related field and four (4) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in stakeholder engagement, communications, community outreach, educational technology, policy, or program coordination, including at least two (2) years involving educational technology, digital innovation, or AI-related initiatives. Experience in a public K through 12, county office of education, higher education, or governmental setting is highly desirable.

Certificates and Licenses

• Valid California Driver’s License Preferred Skills:
• Experience with stakeholder engagement, community organizing, public participation, and committee facilitation in public-sector or educational settings.
• Solid grounding in AI principles and emerging educational technology, including the instructional, operational, and equity implications for K-12.
• Familiarity with the ethical, legal, and policy landscape around AI in public education, including student data privacy (FERPA, COPPA, California SOPIPA, AB 1584)
• Ability to translate technical AI concepts into clear, an accessible language for non-technical audiences, families, students, and policymakers.
• Experience with survey design, data collection, and analysis for program evaluation and continuous improvement.
