Responsibilities

The Coordinator for Academic Support (Student-Athlete Culture and Support Services) coordinates programs that supports the holistic growth of student-athletes, focusing on leadership, life skills, career preparation, and community engagement. This position will manage academic support, mental health initiatives, and compliance with NCAA regulations, bridging the gap between athletic performance and personal development.



  • Develop, implement, and oversee student-athlete leadership, career readiness, and personal development initiatives while serving as the primary liaison for campus and community partnerships, and department-wide student-athlete engagement and recognition events

  • Coordinate student-athlete support initiatives for football and other assigned sport programs by collaborating with coaching staff, Academic Advocacy, and campus partners to address academic concerns, facilitate communications, and implement strategies that promote student-athlete success and a positive team culture

  • Must adhere to NCAA, Conference and Institutional guidelines, policies and procedures including all rules and regulations

  • and possess the ability to promote FAMU and the Athletics Department to students, parents, faculty and the general public. Must be personable, understanding and project a professional image with excellent leadership and communication skills to include awareness of social media etiquette and the ability to work with a multicultural student population.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of related experience; or master’s degree in appropriate area of specialization.


Recommended Competencies


  • Knowledge of academic resources available to students;

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;

  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations;

  • Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles and practices;

  • Ability to represent the University in appointed areas as required;

  • Knowledge of the concept, principles and practices of management;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; and,

  • Knowledge of office practices, procedures and etiquette.


Pay Plan

This is an Administrative and Professional (A&P) position.


Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate is subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks and verification of education. An official college transcript, a high school diploma, or other educational documents must be submitted, where applicable, at the time of employment.
