Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager and Director of Pathology, with latitude for independent judgment, performs moderately difficult tasks and is responsible for various departmental records.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Answer a high volume of telephone calls regarding departmental inquiries.
  • Maintain the Laboratory Manager's incoming and outgoing correspondence.
  • Serve as liaison between the Laboratory Manager and employees, including trainees in the Pathology Department.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions.
  • Screen phone calls and take initiative to handle matters, allowing the Laboratory Manager to focus on urgent patient care issues.
  • Screen Laboratory Trainee applications and process them.
  • Ensure all required documentation is submitted with applications.
  • Schedule interviews for prospective lab trainees with the Laboratory Manager, Supervisors, and the Chief of Pathology.
  • Refer trainees to the Volunteer’s office for processing.
  • Pick up and distribute time sheets and checks to appropriate divisions.
  • Verify overtime justifications before submitting to payroll.
  • Maintain employee personnel files.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on office equipment.
  • Gather data from all Pathology Divisions, compile, and present to the Laboratory Manager for reports and special projects; prepare minutes for laboratory meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

1. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, Psychology, or Rehabilitation Counseling; and one (1) year of full-time experience in a medically-oriented healthcare and medical support systems environment; or
2. Bachelor’s degree in one of the disciplines listed above; and two (2) years of full-time experience in a medically-oriented healthcare and medical support systems environment; or
3. A satisfactory combination of education, training, and/or experience, where each year of relevant training or experience can substitute for 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university. All applicants must have at least a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.
