Job summary

Whiting Gardens Rehab Center in Whiting, NJ is seeking full-time Cooks to join our kitchen team. This role involves preparing meals, supervising dietary aides, and ensuring safe, nutritious options for residents.

The ideal candidate will hold a healthcare cooking certification (ServSafe or Sodexo), have at least 1 year of large-scale cooking experience, and be capable of working weekends and holidays. A $400 signing bonus is offered after probation.

Qualifications

• Certification in healthcare cooking (ServSafe or Sodexo).
• Minimum one (1) year of experience in large-scale cooking.
• Strong knowledge of large scale & therapeutic food prep.
• Must be able to do some physical work.
• Must be able to work as a team member.
• Will manage Kitchen in absence of food service director.
• Must be available for weekends and Holidays.

Responsibilities

• Prepares food for meals, including modified textures for restricted and therapeutic diets.
• Supervises dietary aides in the preparation and serving of foods and beverages.
• Follows instructions of the Dining Services Director in the preparation of meals and maintains meal schedules.
• Prepares food by methods that conserve nutritive value and flavor. Ensures foods are palatable, attractive and in the proper form to meet the individual needs of the residents.
• Assures that all food items are handled properly to ensure safety and sanitation standards according to State and Federal regulations. Properly stores, covers, and refrigerates necessary items. Ensures that foods are cooked to the appropriate temperatures according to the FDA Food Code, latest edition.
• Practices and supervises infection control policies.
• Responsible for opening and closing the kitchen
• Document temperatures of food prior to service, refrigeration and freezer
• Assist with preparation and execution of special events and theme meals
• Attends in-service education and dining services staff meetings as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Dining Services Director.
