Job summary

BJC HealthCare (New) is seeking a Dietary Food Service worker to support patient meals, retail and catering operations by preparing hot and cold foods in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities include following recipes and safety standards, storing foods properly, and meeting dietary requirements. The role is PRN, non-benefits eligible, with shifts at 6:00am–2:30pm or 11:30am–8:00pm, and requires a High School Diploma or GED and ServSafe certification.

Qualifications

  • ServSafe Certification required.
  • Experience: <2 years.

Responsibilities

  • Preps and prepares food items by cutting, chopping, slicing, dicing, pureeing, marinating, etc.
  • Follows standardized recipes, using techniques such as sautéing, broiling, braising, blanching, baking, grilling, frying, and steaming.
  • Chills and stores foods per labeling, dating, and food safety guidelines; completes QA logs.
  • Ensures compliance with dietary requirements, nutritional restrictions, allergens, and modified textures.
  • Cleans kitchen equipment, appliances, and work areas to maintain sanitation.

Overview

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. The Dietary department committed to promoting healthy food options for patients, visitors and the community by providing a variety of meal plans to meet the needs of our patients. We offer ''Catering to You'' a program that brings hospitality hosts and hostesses to each patient¿s room to discuss the menu offerings, take their order and assemble, deliver and retrieve their tray. Our cafeteria is open daily, serving patients, visitors and staff.

Role Purpose

Performs a variety of food service production activities such as pre-preparation and preparation of hot and cold foods for patient services, retail and catering operations following all dietary requirements. Properly handles and stores food per applicable regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Preps and prepares food items by cutting, chopping, slicing, dicing, pureeing, marinating, etc. This includes washing, peeling, cutting, seeding vegetables/fruits, along with weighing and measuring designated ingredients.
  • Follows standardized recipes, producing food items by utilizing various cooking techniques such as sautéing, broiling, braising, blanching, baking, grilling, deep fat frying, and steaming using a variety of institutional equipment while meeting proper food quality and proper serving temperatures.
  • Properly chills and stores foods in designated areas following all labeling, dating, food safety guidelines and rotation procedures as well as completing designated food safety quality control logs.
  • Ensures compliance of special dietary requirements, nutritional restrictions, allergens, modified textures and other special dietary needs.
  • Cleans kitchen equipment, appliances, and work areas to ensure conformance to the highest level of sanitation.
