POSITION SUMMARY
The Assisted Living Cook works independently in a role with a wide variety of tasks and operations to order, supply, prepare, cook, and serve food. Knowledge of customer service requirements and ability to perform at high customer service levels on a consistent basis. Able to create menus and recipes and cook and assist serve staff in food preparation, serving and clean-up. Assists with the ordering of food and non-food items to provide adequate supply while staying with assigned budget. Scheduled will include evenings and weekends, but days and times could vary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
- Prepares appealing and palatable hot and cold food items for residents and guests according to standardized recipes.
- Maintains strict sanitation standards and temperature controls during all phases of the food preparation, recording food temperatures as required.
- Reviews daily menus and plans day’s production to meet timely preparation, arranging for necessary substitutes 24 hours in advance.
- Utilizes cost control methods to effectively produce food with minimal waste.
- Provides meal service within allotted times.
- Washes dishes, including utensils and equipment, takes out trash, and mop floors.
- Assists in the ordering of food and non-food items to provide adequate supply while staying with assigned budget.
- Assure compliance with local, state, and federal health regulations.
- Cleans and sanitizes equipment and work area per daily and weekly schedule.
- Maintains an orderly condition of assigned work area.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, and physical related information
- Is knowledgeable of general hospital and department specific policies and procedures.
- Other duties may be assigned and are subject to change with or without prior notice.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
- Graduation from high school is preferred.
- Must have the ability to follow written and verbal directions.
- Must be able to make simple calculations.
- Knowledge of food preparation and sanitation process required.
- Knowledge of industrial kitchen equipment required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Illinois Food Protection Manager Certificate or willing to obtain.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing and walking
- Required to climb, balance, stoop and kneel.
- Required to use arms, hands, and fingers for repetitive grasping, pulling, and pushing and feeling.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Potential exposure to chemicals and communicable diseases
- Could be subject to mechanical hazards.
- Requires working in hot and cold temperatures.
- The noise level is moderate to noisy.

Understands the responsibilities related to compliance and knows to contact the Corporate Compliance Officer should there be any instance of question or concern regarding fraud and/or abuse.
