Description

Join our nutrition team. We are seeking a part-time Cookfor our campus located in Norfolk, VA. As a Cook you would be preparing meals per daily menu and overseeing operation of the kitchen including, but not limited to, inventory, record keeping and planning.

Schedule: Part-time 20-28 hours per week

Rotational shifts; to include options of Monday through Friday 10:00 am until 6:30 pm, 2:30 pm until 6:30 pm, plus rotating weekends (2 weekends per month, 7:30 am until 6:00 pm).Additional shift differential offered for hours worked on the weekend

Pay:$17.00-$19.00based on years of relevant experience

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 1 year experience as a Cook,catering or bulk cooking experience preferred.
  • Must be able to handle all aspects of food preparation and use of kitchen equipment.
  • Professional school experience preferred.
  • Must hold a valid Norfolk Food Handler’s Certificate, Servsafe Certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Must be able to push/pull a food cart which may exceed 200 pounds
  • Must hold a high standard of personal hygiene and accepted sanitary procedures

Duties:

  • Prepare meals from menus planned by the Director or Production Manager.
  • Prepare and decorate residential cakes for all dorms.
  • Maintain inventory and prepare menus for special functions as ordered by Department Managers or Dorms.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitization of all work areas and inventory supplies for department.
  • Follow USDA Food Program, Norfolk Health and Fire Department compliance.

Qualifications

Education & Experience Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent (may be waived depending upon years of experience).
  • Must be able to understand and work with the type of residents that are served by the Center.
  • Requires 1 year experience as a Cook with equivalent professional school experience preferred.
  • Catering experience preferred.
  • Must hold a valid Norfolk Food Handlers Certificate.
  • Must have a high standard of personal hygiene and accepted sanitary procedures.
