Job summary

The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie is seeking a Part-Time Cook to prepare and serve meals in the Anchor Point Crisis Residence Program. You will maintain kitchen and storage areas, follow HACCP guidelines, and coordinate with staff to meet meal production needs.

Responsibilities include operating commercial kitchen equipment, supervising residents/work-study staff, and ensuring safe, clean practices. Strong preference for food safety certification and related training.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid New York State Driver License in good condition.
  • Must complete pre-employment physical, PPD, drug screen, and annual PPD.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, bake and serve a variety of foods per menus and production records.
  • Read emails and document relevant information into the cook's log.
  • Coordinate with agency houses to collect meal counts and related data.
  • Set up and merchandize food and service areas and serve meals.
  • Operate ovens, stoves, mixers and other kitchen equipment safely.
  • Oversee residents and work-study staff in the kitchen.
  • Practice HACCP and follow health and agency policies.
  • Assist in reducing waste and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation.

We are currently seeking Part-Time Cook to work in our Anchor Point Crisis Residence Program.Position Summary:The Cook prepares and serves meals, and maintains kitchen and storage areas, all in accordance with the policies and standards of the Dutchess County Department of Behavioral and Community Health, the State Education Child Nutrition Program, and the Agency.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Prepare, produce, heat, cook, bake and serve a variety of foods including soups, entrees, meats, vegetables, desserts, breads, salads, sandwiches, beverages, or other foods and beverages as specified by the menus, recipes, and production records.Read Department emails and documents relevant information/requests into the cook’s log.Communicate in a professional manner with all agency houses to collect meal counts, trip information, birthday data and general information needed to maintain meal production stasis.Sets up and merchandises food and food service areas and serves food.Operate kitchen equipment such as, but not limited to, electric mixers, slicers, grinders, ovens, stove tops, tilt-skillets, tilt kettles, warmers, and coolers. Utilize kitchenware such as, but not limited to, knives, spatulas, whisks, tongs, spoons, and ladles.Oversee and provide guidance to the Children’s Homes’ residents and work study employees.Practice safe food handling according to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Dutchess County Department of Behavioral and Community Health, State Education Child Nutrition Program and Agency policies and standards.Assist in the monitoring, reduction, and management of food waste.Clean and sanitize pots, pans, and kitchen utensils, sweeping, mopping, and general cleaning. Maintain seasonal equipment.Perform daily, weekly, and monthly deep cleaning of the facility, service areas, and all kitchen equipment such as counters, tables, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, mixers, transient hot carts, mobile carts, and rolling racks.Dispose of waste according to the Food Services Operating Procedures, and OSHA.Schedule: Monday-Wednesday 3:30pm-6:30pm, Saturday-Sunday 12:00pm-6:00pm, Thursday-Friday OFF.The Children's Home offers an outstanding benefit package which includes weekly pay, medical, vision, dental, life insurance, 403(b), tuition reimbursement, paid time off, and a great work environment!
