Job summary

Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center in Rockford, IL is seeking an experienced part-time Cook to support our Food Services team. You will prepare and serve meals, follow standardized recipes, and ensure meals meet therapeutic diets and portion guidelines.

The role is 20 hours per week with some flexibility; requires one year of cooking experience in nursing home, institution, or restaurant and completion of a food service sanitation course.

Job description

Fairhaven is seeking an experienced part-time Cook to perform a variety of activities supporting the Food Services function.

Essential Functions:

• Has basic knowledge and understanding of various therapeutic diets and applies this knowledge in preparing and serving food.
• Reviews menu spreadsheets and conforms strictly to the requirements of the menu.
• Prepares and serves food by following standardized recipes and correct serving portions; maintains responsibility for the taste of food and makes adjustments as necessary.
• Plans cooking schedule so that food is ready at proper time.
• Checks food temperatures and records in logbook
• Monitors and records temperatures of cold storage units.
• Makes sure area and equipment are clean and sanitized.
• Responsible for supplements, food substitutions, and utilization of overproduced food.
• Responsible for appearance of food and garnishments.
• Participates in creating an atmosphere, which allows for the privacy, dignity, cleanliness, safety and well-being of each resident.
• Safeguards privacy and confidentiality of all resident health care information, which includes complying with all HIPAA regulations.
• Interacts positively with all residents at all times creating an atmosphere, which promotes a homelike environment.
• Maintains, cares for and safely uses supplies and equipment effectively and efficiently per Fairhaven policies and procedures.
• Maintains sanitary conditions; follows infection control and waste management procedures as they relate to this position.

Schedule:

20 hours per week with some flexibility required

Position Pay Scale:

$17.30-$18.75/hour

Essential Qualifications & Requirements:

Type of work and characteristics of duties require:

• Physical condition allowing for normal kitchen duties including but not limited to; lifting (up to 50 pounds), bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, grabbing, pushing, pulling, standing or walking an entire shift, use of arms and hands with dexterity, ability to read and understand directions.
• Ability to communicate in a friendly manner to residents and coworkers in English.
• Comfort in working in a Christian Retirement Center environment.

Experience & Education or Skills Preferred:

One-year cooking experience in nursing home, institution or restaurant.

Completed food service sanitation course
