Part Time: Shifts Vary

The Cook, under the direction of management and supervisors, will prepare, present, store, and dispatch all food products. Responsibilities include preparing food for the Dining Room, Bistro (if applicable), marketing and catering events, and resident tray service. The role involves following menu specifications within set timeframes, adhering to health and safety regulations, and ensuring sanitary and safe food handling at all times.

Job Duties
  • Prepare and serve menu items according to departmental policies and standards.
  • Ensure presentation quality of all menu items.
  • Prepare meals based on menus, nutritional programs, and individual plans.
  • Maintain food quality, taste, presentation, and dietary requirements.
  • Ensure food safety and sanitation, including cleaning and proper storage.
  • Work efficiently and maintain a consistent pace.
  • Prepare meals timely and accurately for residents' dietary needs.
  • Utilize kitchen equipment effectively.
  • Stay productive and prepare for future needs.
  • Be flexible and volunteer for open shifts as needed.
  • Follow reporting procedures for accidents and incidents.
  • Comply with all safety regulations, including infection control and hazardous materials handling.
  • Manage inventory and order supplies timely.
  • Assist in training new employees.
  • Serve food in proper portions and at correct temperatures.
  • Report policy infractions.
  • Arrive punctually for scheduled shifts.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
  • Minimum 1 year of cooking experience.
  • Experience in the retirement home industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of food trends, sanitation, and cost controls.
  • Understanding of safe food handling and serving methods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Flexibility and interpersonal skills for diverse environments.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, email).
