Job Title: COOK

Position Summary:

The cook assists with preparing menus, inventory control, and maintains a clean or organized safe kitchen environment. This position is responsible for preparing food in an appetizing and appealing manner.

Essential Functions:
  1. Identify and report food and supplies needed for the next week’s menus
  2. Assist in the receiving, rotation, and storage of products
  3. Prepare menus and cook food in accordance with nutritional guidelines, regulations, and residents’ individual prescribed diets and food preferences
  4. Assist in fostering residents’ independence with eating by providing adaptive equipment when needed
  5. Prepare food and coordinate food services for special community events when requested
  6. Notify Director of Food and Beverage or any malfunctioning kitchen equipment or appliances
  7. Ensure proper storage and handling of food in accordance with infection control standards
  8. Work in a safe and alert manner
  9. Take ownership for associate’s safety and the safety of residents
  10. Disclose any medication that might impair ability to perform the job safely or competently
Non-Essential Functions:
  1. Lead by example exhibiting the CORE Values through servant leadership
  2. Encourage teamwork and promote company philosophy
  3. Attend required community meetings and participate in Life Enrichment activities when able
  4. Complete all required courses in adherence with HRA University
  5. Be prompt and perform duties regularly
  6. Report missing persons using the Safe Return program or equivalent
  7. Understand fire evacuation steps
  8. Maintain a safe and secure environment for residents
Qualifications/Skills/Educational Requirements:
  • High school education required
  • Experience in cooking for large groups is a plus
  • Food-preparation certification preferred
  • Knowledge of state food-handling and kitchen regulations
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and safety procedures
