Job summary

Ecumen in Hutchinson, MN, seeks a Cook Lead to manage proper food preparation, cooking and service, honoring resident diets and requests. This role supports the Leadership Team and ensures high-quality dining experiences for residents and staff.

Day and evening shifts, with every other weekend; focus on safety, sanitation, and teamwork to maintain a welcoming dining environment in a senior living community.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Food Protection Manager per MN or eligible within 90 days.
  • Commercial kitchen experience required.
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment and safety procedures required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exemplary service to residents, families and guests.
  • Prepare, cook and serve meals; operate kitchen equipment.
  • Follow recipes and adjust portions for different group sizes.
  • Maintain inventory and assist with stock control.
  • Serve as dining staff lead and support the Leadership Team.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe work area.

Job description

The Cook Lead is responsible for proper food prep, cooking and service of food while recognizing special diets, resident's dietary needs and requests. This position is also responsible for maintaining work areas in proper order and following established policies and procedures of the facility while demonstrating high levels of service. Point of contact in support of the Leadership Team.

Ecumen Oaks consists of 32 assisted living rental apartment homes as well as 9 additional residences for seniors requiring memory care services, and Ecumen Pines offers 50 assisted living residences. Schedule:

Full-Time. Both Day and Evening shifts - various shifts from 6am-2:30pm and 10am-6:30pm. Every other weekend and holiday. Occasional On-call support to help take dietary staffing calls.

Pay:

The targeted pay range for this job is $21.50 - $25.00 per hour. Ecumen considers a variety of factors when determining new hire pay including experience, qualifications, and, when applicable, certifications, licenses, and education.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  1. Provides exemplary service to our residents, families and guests, ensuring all feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly and courteous service.
  2. Preps, prepares, cooks and serves meals to residents, families, guests and employees. Properly operates and maintains all equipment in the food preparation area.
  3. Accurately follows directions and recipes. Ability to convert recipes for various size groups. Follows production guidelines for best product usage, portion control and use of leftovers.
  4. Maintains adequate inventory of food and supplies and assists with inventory process as directed.
  5. Point of contact for dining staff in support of the Leadership Team. Gives direction as needed and reports to the supervisor.
  6. Maintains a clean, sanitary, safe and efficiently organized work area. Products will be labeled, dated and rotated ensuring an adequate, fresh inventory of food and supplies.
  7. Partners with department leaders to maintain awareness of facility special events, and activities to ensure adequate product and labor are available.
  8. Ensures residents with special diets receive appropriate food. Accommodates resident requests promptly.
  9. Demonstrates proper safety and sanitation techniques as part of the work.
  10. Partners effectively with others in a demanding and changing environment, supports all employees within the community as directed by the leadership team.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certified Food Protection Manager in accordance with MN Department of Health or eligible within 90-days of hire
  • Commercial kitchen experience
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written
  • Ability to follow all safety rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the facility including but not limited to: Vulnerable Adult and Abuse Policy, HIPAA, Resident's Bill of Rights, Universal Precaution, AWAIR, OSHA, Right to know, SDS, ADA, HUD Policy and Procedures, Fair Housing laws and regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous senior care experience
  • Culinary training, certification or degree
  • Leadership experience
