Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a cook to prepare a variety of meals for service, including scratch-made dishes. The role requires following standardized recipes, accurate portioning, and ensuring proper temperatures and sanitation.

Excellent customer service and teamwork are essential as you support a busy kitchen environment. Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least one year of cooking experience or two years in food service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One year of experience as a cook or two years of experience in food service preferred.
• Graduate of vocational school, or culinary program preferred.
• State Food Safety Sanitation Certification required within 90 days.
• Excellent interpersonal / communication skills.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations for portions and pricing.
• Ability to work well in a team and on their own.

Responsibilities

• Determines food items and prepares them for service.
• Prepares food from scratch that is appetizing and appealing.
• Executes culinary knife skills.
• Reads and follows standardized recipes.
• Cooks to order and portions food per menu and number of people served.
• Maintains proper food temperature and logs.
• Maintains a clean and sanitized work area and equipment.
• Adheres to safety and sanitation regulations.
• Delivers excellent customer service and works well in a team or independently.
