Job description

The Kent County Juvenile Detention Center is hiring for a part-time Cook I. The successful candidate will prepare one or more parts of large meals for residents and staff at the 98-bed, secure Juvenile Detention Center.

The Cook will prepare special diets for individuals under instructions from supervisors. The supervisor will provide menus for the hot meals on a weekly basis.

Additional responsibilities include serving meals, putting away stock and cleaning the kitchen, including equipment. Candidates are required to become ServSafe certified within the 9-month probationary period.

This position does not require the candidate to have any physical contact with the residents housed within Juvenile Detention.

This hours for this position will typically be up to four shifts per week from 10am or 11am - 6pm, or 9am - 6pm or 6:30pm, working every other weekend.

Graduation from high school or its equivalent.

Ability to read and comprehend recipes and other instructions, material safety data sheets and other safety information required for proper performance of the work.

Must have ability to complete basic math to calculate accurate food measurements

Prior experience in cooking and preparing of food on large scale basis preferred.
