Who we are:

Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI) is one of the largest providers of care to children and adults with Autism, developmental disabilities, and other special needs. With over 50 years of service on Long Island, we support over 1,500 individuals through educational settings, residential services, day habilitation programs, and vocational services.

Job Title: Cook

Salary Range: $16.85 - $20.22/hour

Shift: Part-time (24 hours/week)

Schedule: Monday 9am-2pm, Tuesday 9am-2pm, Wednesday 9am-1pm, Thursday 9am-2pm, Friday 9am-2pm

Responsibilities:

1. Prepare meals, cook, shop, and plan menus in coordination with the Nutritionist.
2. Follow menus and make substitutions according to exchange lists; adhere to dietary restrictions such as gluten-free, halal, kosher, and individual needs.
3. Prepare ingredients, including chopping, peeling, and cutting meat.
4. Cook using various methods and equipment.
5. Measure ingredients accurately and maintain food inventories.
6. Store unused food properly.
7. Report maintenance needs or hazards to management.
8. Follow OPWDD regulations regarding food safety and kitchen standards.
9. Meet with the Nutritionist to develop appropriate dietary menus.
10. Help plan and organize special occasion parties.
11. Answer calls courteously and take messages.
12. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• At least one year of proven experience as a cook.
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff and individuals supported.
• Capability to cook following provided menus and guidelines.
• Physical ability to lift at least 25 lbs, bend, twist, and reach.
