Cooks are responsible for meal preparation, cooking, shopping, and meal planning, in coordination with menus prepared by a Nutritionist. They must follow all menus and fill in substitutions according to the exchange list. Familiarity with and adherence to OPWDD regulations regarding food, kitchen area, and house cleanliness are essential. Cooks also help schedule and plan parties for special occasions and report any maintenance needs or hazardous conditions to the Manager or Maintenance Person.

Description

Cooks are responsible for meal preparation, cooking, shopping, and meal planning, in coordination with menus prepared by a Nutritionist. They must follow all menus and fill in substitutions according to the exchange list. They need to be familiar with and follow OPWDD regulations regarding food, kitchen area, and house cleanliness. Additionally, they assist in scheduling and planning parties for special occasions and report maintenance needs or hazards.

Salary Range: $16.85-$20.22/hour

Schedule: 20 hours/week

Responsibilities

  • Meal preparation, cooking, shopping, and meal planning, in coordination with menus prepared by Nutritionist.
  • Follow all menus & fill in substitutions according to exchange list; accommodate special diets such as gluten-free, halal, kosher, and individual meal needs.
  • Prepare ingredients for cooking, including chopping, peeling, and cutting meat.
  • Cook using various methods and utensils, including grills and ovens.
  • Measure ingredients as per recipes.
  • Maintain accurate food inventories and ensure proper storage of unused food.
  • Report maintenance needs or hazardous conditions to the Supervisor or Maintenance staff.
  • Notify supervisor immediately if the house or appliances need repair.
  • Follow OPWDD regulations regarding food safety and kitchen cleanliness.
  • Meet with the Nutritionist to set up appropriate dietary menus for residents.
  • Help schedule and plan parties for special occasions.
  • Answer phone calls courteously and take messages.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • At least one year of proven experience as a cook.
  • Ability to work well with staff and individuals supported.
  • Capability to cook following menus and guidelines.
  • Must be able to lift and carry at least 25 lbs.
  • Good physical condition, able to bend, twist, and reach during duties.
