Job summary

Brightway Living & Learning is seeking a part-time Cook/Housekeeper to support adults with disabilities on Long Island. You will prepare meals, keep living spaces clean and safe, and follow regulatory guidelines.

The role offers flexible hours (10am-2pm or 9am-1pm, Monday–Friday) and a supportive team. This is an on-site position with meaningful, hands-on care opportunities.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, understand, and follow safety guidelines.
• Ability to follow safety guidelines when using and disposing of cleaning products.
• Ability to work well with staff and individuals supported by Brightway.
• Ability to cook according to provided menus and guidelines.
• Ability to use appropriate tools for general housecleaning.

Responsibilities

• Perform heavy cleaning of the house and windows on a daily or weekly basis as needed.
• Prepare meals, assist with shopping and meal planning per nutritionist menus.
• Report maintenance needs or hazardous conditions to the manager.
• Notify supervisor if house or appliances require repair.
• Assist with planning and hosting parties for special occasions.

Part-Time, Hourly $18.50 - $20.35/hour

The Role: As a Cook/Housekeeper, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with disabilities in their daily lives. You will provide meal preparation for the people Brightway Living and Learning supports and ensure the spaces in which the people Brightway Living and Learning supports live are clean and safe. This is a truly rewarding opportunity to build meaningful relationships and make a tangible difference.

What You'll Do:

• Heavy cleaning of entire house and windows, daily or weekly, as required. Including, but not limited to:
  • Bathrooms: including sinks, toilets, showers, tubs, walls and floors.
  • Kitchens: floors, countertops, walls, all appliances, including refrigerator, stove, toaster, microwave, tables & chairs, pantries and cabinets.
  • All common areas, including, but not limited to: Living room, dining room, Recreation/TV Room, medicine room, hallways and stairways, and bedrooms, office, other inside areas, deck/porch.
• Meal preparation, cooking, shopping, and meal planning, in coordination with menus prepared by Nutritionist.
  • Ensure rotation of perishable foods, so expired tainted foods are regularly discarded.
  • Follow all menus and fill in substitutions according to exchange list.
• Reports any maintenance needs or hazardous conditions to Manager or Maintenance person.
• Notify supervisor immediately if house or appliances need repair.
• Help schedule and plan parties for special occasions.
• Answer telephone in a courteous and professional manner and take appropriate messages.
• Be familiar with and follow OMRDD regulations regarding food, kitchen area and cleanliness of house.
• Additional responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor.

• Ability to use appropriate tools as needed in general housecleaning.
• Must be able to use housecleaning equipment, as needed, i.e., vacuum cleaner, carpet shampoo machine.
• Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 25 lbs., bend, twist, kneel and walk distances sufficient to shop for needed supplies, and in the performance of housekeeping duties.
