Brightway Living & Learning is a premier non-profit provider of human services on Long Island, supporting individuals with autism and developmental disabilities through meal preparation and clean, safe living spaces.

The Cook/Housekeeper role offers part-time shifts (Mon & Thu, 8a-4p) with hourly pay between $18.50 and $20.35. Join a mission-driven team focused on meaningful, supportive care and community impact.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, understand, and follow safety guidelines.
• Follow safety guidelines for cleaning products.
• Work well with staff and individuals we support.
• Cook according to menus and meal prep guidelines.

• Operate housekeeping equipment (vacuum, carpet shampoo).
• Lift up to 25 lbs and perform physical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Heavy cleaning of entire house and windows as required.
• Meal preparation, cooking, shopping, and planning with Nutritionist menus.
• Report maintenance needs or hazards to Manager.
• Notify supervisor if house or appliances need repair.
• Help schedule and plan parties for special occasions.
• Answer telephone in a courteous and professional manner.
• Follow OMRDD regulations regarding food, kitchen, cleanliness.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

The Role:

As a Cook/Housekeeper, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with disabilities in their daily lives. You will provide meal preparation for the people Brightway Living & Learning supports and ensure the spaces in which the people Brightway Living & Learning supports live are clean and safe. This is a truly rewarding opportunity to build meaningful relationships and make a tangible difference.

What You'll Do

• Heavy cleaning of entire house and windows, daily or weekly, as required. Including, but not limited to:
  • Bathrooms: including sinks, toilets, showers, tubs, walls and floors.
  • Kitchens: floors, countertops, walls, all appliances, including refrigerator, stove, toaster, microwave, tables & chairs, pantries and cabinets.
  • All common areas, including, but not limited to: Living room, dining room, Recreation/TV Room, medicine room, hallways and stairways, and bedrooms, office, other inside areas, deck/porch.
• Meal preparation, cooking, shopping, and meal planning, in coordination with menus prepared by Nutritionist.
  • Ensure rotation of perishable foods, so expired tainted foods are regularly discarded.
  • Follow all menus and fill in substitutions according to exchange list.
• Reports any maintenance needs or hazardous conditions to Manager or Maintenance person.
• Notify supervisor immediately if house or appliances need repair.
• Help schedule and plan parties for special occasions.
• Answer telephone in a courteous and professional manner and take appropriate messages.
• Be familiar with and follow OMRDD regulations regarding food, kitchen area and cleanliness of house.
• Additional responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor.

• Ability to follow safety guidelines in using and disposing of household cleaning products.
• Ability to work well with staff members and individuals we support.
• Ability to cook following menus and meal preparation guidelines.
• Ability to use appropriate tools as needed in general housecleaning.
• Must be able to use housecleaning equipment, as needed, i.e., vacuum cleaner, carpet shampoo machine.
• Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 25 lbs., bend, twist, kneel and walk distances sufficient to shop for needed supplies, and in the performance of housekeeping duties.
