Essential Job Functions

  1. Follow standardized recipes, portioning, menu extensions, and presentation standards.
  2. Complete and utilize daily production worksheets and waste log sheets.
  3. Taste completed meals to ensure quality.
  4. Monitor temperature of hot and cold foods during preparation and service to meet established temperature goals.
  5. In the absence of the Director of Culinary, check and inspect food products and supplies upon delivery.
  6. Supervise and assist in storage of supplies and food products.
  7. Notify the Director of Culinary of food, supplies, or equipment needs, report equipment breakdowns and unsafe conditions.
  8. Comply with health and sanitation regulations and procedures, as evidenced through audits.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Culinary.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum 1 year of cooking experience, including batch cooking, family-style restaurants, or short order cooking.
  2. Food service experience in a healthcare dietary setting is preferred but not required.
  3. Knowledge of quantity food preparation and portioned serving.
  4. Ability to read, understand, and follow recipes, diet orders, and work assignments.
  5. Willingness to work flexible hours, including during emergencies.
  6. Patience and tolerance toward staff, residents, and family members.

Education Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Preference for education in quantity cooking and therapeutic diets.

Physical Demands

The Cook must stand and walk intermittently, reach, stoop, bend, lift, carry, and manipulate various food and supplies. Ability to work with chemicals and lift/carry 50-75 pounds is required.

Additional Information

  • Location: Fahrney Keedy Senior Living Community
  • Schedule: Prep Cook 3 days/week, Relief Cook 2 days/week
  • Shift times vary (6 am - 2:30 pm, 11:30 am - 8 pm); weekend availability required
  • Salary: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
