Job summary

The Salvation Army learning center in Cincinnati is seeking a part-time kitchen assistant to support the food program for children. You will cook meals, follow the menu, and portion servings by age while maintaining CACFP guidelines.

Responsibilities include cleaning, inventory, ordering support, time-tracking, and assisting teachers with child care during breaks. 25 hours per week with strong food-safety practices expected.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Cooks/prepares all meals and snacks for children enrolled in the center.
  • Follows specifications of food menu.
  • Prepares proper serving sizes/portions based on children’s ages.
  • Keeps the kitchen, refrigerator/freezer and storage areas properly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Cleans all counter tops as needed and/or daily.
  • Cleans all counter/table legs weekly.
  • Sweeps kitchen daily.
  • Washes dish towels/rags as needed.
  • Washes all dishes daily.
  • Takes out trash daily.
  • Plans the usage of food to avoid waste.
  • Rotates food from storage to refrigerator/freezer.
  • Throws away all expired food.
  • Assists with ordering and maintaining inventory of food/supplies.
  • Bi-Weekly or as-needed inventory of all food/supplies ordered through vendor.
  • Weekly or as needed planning, shopping, transportation for all food/supplies to be purchased at the grocery store.
  • Communicates any ordering needs or concerns with the center director or administrative assistant.
  • Logs all time worked with the food program.
  • Acquires and maintains training/certifications needed for food duties.
  • Follows USDA CACFP guidelines.
  • Maintains kitchen/food standards compliant with local health guidelines.
  • Will care for children as needed and assist teachers by caring for children during lunch breaks, bathroom breaks, etc.

STATUS: Nonexempt

SCHEDULE: Part Time (25 hours per week)

FUNCTION: Responsible for daily cooking and other duties associated with the operation of the learning center’s food program.

Responsibilities
Cooking
  • Cooks/prepares all meals and snacks for children enrolled in the center.
  • Follows specifications of food menu.
  • Prepares proper serving sizes/portions based on children’s ages.
Cleaning
  • Keeps the kitchen, refrigerator/freezer and storage areas properly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Cleans all counter tops as needed and/or daily.
  • Cleans all counter/table legs weekly.
  • Sweeps kitchen daily.
  • Washes dish towels/rags as needed.
  • Washes all dishes daily.
  • Takes out trash daily.
Rotate all food
  • Plans the usage of food in order to avoid waste.
  • Rotate the food from the food storage areas to the refrigerator/freezer.
  • Throws away all expired food.
