Job summary

Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking a PM Cook to prepare and serve meals for recruits, staff, guests, and program participants. Duties include following approved recipes, menus, and reports while maintaining cleanliness and HACCP standards.

Work hours are Monday–Thursday 11:00 AM–7:30 PM and Friday 7:00 AM–3:30 PM. This is a full‑time, on‑site position within a government facility and requires high school education or equivalent.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Cook 5: no specific type or amount of experience required.
• Cook E6: at least 1 year of quantity cooking and food preparation experience; familiarity with Public Health, sanitation, and departmental guidelines.

This position functions as a Cook responsible for preparation and service of meals for recruits’ staff, guests and program participants using approved processes, recipes, menus and reports. The position prepares meals, serves meals, and cleans all areas of the operation during and after meal service. Responsibilities will vary, including food production, sanitation of premises, HACCP reporting, meal service, and food storage procedures.

This position is for the PM Cook. The schedule will be Monday through Thursday 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM and Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.

IMPORTANT:

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
