Job summary

Nash UNC Health Care in North Carolina is seeking a Cook to prepare sandwiches, grill items, and a variety of meals for patients and cafeteria patrons at Nash Hospitals. The role includes setting up the food line, performing cleaning duties, and operating the cash register.

The Cook will work onsite in the NGH Dietary unit, following dietary guidelines and quality standards to ensure safe, nutritious meals for patients and guests.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is preferred.
• Certification in Food Handlers is required within 6 months of hire.
• One year of experience in food service.

Responsibilities

• Cooks food, including pastries, desserts, and soups, according to recipes.
• Ensures quality of foods and maintains proper temperatures.
• Operates and cleans production utensils and equipment and maintains sanitation of the cooking area.
• Prepares complete meals and special event foods and arranges food appealingly.
• Prepares food for regular, modified, and calculated diets using weighing and measuring techniques.

Summary

The Cook may prepare sandwiches and grill items for patrons. The Cook is responsible for setting up food line and salad bar, performing cleaning duties, operating cash register and maintaining associated records. The Cook may cook a wide variety of food items for patients at Nash General Hospital and Coastal Plains Hospital, and for cafeteria patrons.

Responsibilities

1. Cooks food, including pastries desserts, and soups, according to recipes. Completes basic mathematical calculations to alter quantities as needed.
2. Ensures quality of foods. Assists in testing and standardizing recipes maintains proper temperatures for food.
3. Operates and cleans all production utensils and equipment. Maintains cooking area in a sanitary, neat and orderly manner.
4. Prepares complete meals and special events foods. Arranges food in an appealing manner.
5. Prepares food, including meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, and soups for regular, modified, and calculated diets using weighing and measuring techniques.

Education

• High School diploma or GED is preferred.

Certification

• Food Handlers Certificate within 6 months of hire.

Professional Requirement

• One (1) year of experience in food service.
