Examples of Duties

Under immediate supervision, prepares and cooks food in a hospital or institution. Performs related duties as required. Typical tasks include supervising meal preparation, cooking meats, vegetables, soups, cereals, desserts, salads, and special diets. Prepares meals for breakfast, dinner, or supper, serves food at steam tables, weighs food for diabetic patients, tags carts, delivers food to dining rooms, clears tables, cleans utensils and equipment, handles supplies, maintains food records, and takes inventory of supplies.

Minimum Qualifications

A High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required. Candidates must have three (3) years of full-time paid experience in commercial, institutional, or related volume food preparation, including one (1) year preparing meals according to specialized diets.

Additional Duties

  • Prepare meals according to the state-mandated menu, following all nutritional guidelines by the state of Ohio.
  • Maintain health and safety regulations during food prep.
  • Check and review all expiration dates on food deliveries.
  • Record date received on all food items, if not already pre-dated by the vendor.
  • Record date opened on all food items if not completely used.
  • Review and submit all invoices from vendors for food products and supplies received.
  • Monitor food and water temperatures.
  • Complete daily/weekly inventory reports.
  • Maintain a clean kitchen area, including all equipment, supplies, countertops, and dishwashing stations.
  • Keep the office area clean and organized.
