Job summary

Penn State University’s Mont Alto campus is seeking a Full Time Cook B to join the dining services team. The role focuses on preparing and cooking dishes from standardized recipes, maintaining proper temperatures and cleanliness.

Schedule is 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m., weekends off; benefits include medical, dental, retirement, paid time off, and a generous 75% tuition discount for employees and eligible spouses and children.

• Assist Cook A in preparing and cooking several types of foods as directed.
• Check equipment for proper working conditions and cleanliness; report malfunctions.
• Ensure menu items are at proper temperature and freshness for serving lines.
• Perform other duties related or similar to the type described above.

Full Time Cook B (Mont Alto) – Grade 8

Penn State is searching for a full time Cook B to join the dining services team at Mont Alto campus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, combine, season, and/or cook food served in University dining halls according to standardized recipes, methods and/or procedures.
• Make advance preparation for food items as required.
• Perform necessary operations to prepare food items, utilizing the proper food production equipment.
• Dispose of leftovers as directed.
• Maintain clean work area and general cleanliness of equipment, following established cleaning schedules.
• Assist Cook A in preparing and cooking several types of foods as directed, using the proper equipment.
• Check equipment to ensure proper working conditions and cleanliness; report malfunctions.
• Ensure menu items for the serving lines are maintained at proper temperature and freshness, and that adequate amounts are available for students and guests.
• Perform other duties related or similar to the type described above.

Job Requirements

Requires the use of commercial English, grammar, and arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions; simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, together with the use of adjustable measuring instruments and related materials requiring interpretation in various applications; or the posting, preparation, interpretation, use and checking of reports, forms, records and comparable data.

Work from recipes, menus, requisitions, and be familiar with ordinary cooking routines.

Qualifications

• Over 9 up to 12 months of effective experience.
• Minimum work experience: 9 to 12 months of effective experience.
• Required certifications: None.
• Background checks: Successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies is required.
• Work schedule: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday off.
