Missions Inc. Programs, with more than a century of experience in Human Services, provides clients with safe, sober housing, mental health resources, goal-planning, advocacy, support and information. Our programs are staffed 24/7 and provide daily meals. We have an opening for a full-time Cook & Food Services Coordinator that will serve two of our housing programs.
This position will involve planning and providing nourishing and well-balanced meals for residents from diverse backgrounds and with differing dietary needs.
Job Responsibilities- Provide for nutritious, well-balanced meals for residents.
- Develop menus which meet nutritional standards; menus to be approved by dietician.
- Prepare weekday lunch & dinners for approximately 45 residents/staff for two programs at separate sites and ensure that food and supplies are available for preparation of other meals and bag lunches.
- Provide special diets as needed, including heart healthy, diabetic, vegetarian, vegan, and Kosher.
- Deliver 16 meals 3 times weekly to offsite program.
- Post monthly menus including any changes to menu.
- Maintain documentation of menus.
- Maintain safety and sanitation standards consistent with program policies, procedures and applicable regulations. Ensure sanitary condition in the kitchen, dining room and storage areas.
- Ensure cost-effective purchases of food and food service supplies.
- Order and receive food and kitchen supplies.
- Maintain purchases within approved budget, maximizing utilization of low-cost and no-cost food resources (e.g. food banks, good gleaning programs and food outlets).
- Review ordering with program manager.
- Provide information and training on kitchen procedures, including health and safety standards, for residents and staff.
- Meet with Director of Programs to review quarterly quality improvement dietary reports, including resident food survey responses.
- Maintain confidentiality of all residents in accordance with confidentiality laws.
- Maintain food service manual in consultation with the dietitian, containing procedures regarding purchasing, preparation, sanitation, emergencies and other related topics.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service trainings related to food service.
- Other tasks as assigned by the Program Manager.
Required Experience and Qualifications- Minimum of 1-year experience in food service including but not limited to: running a commercial kitchen, meal planning, serving, menu planning, ordering, inventory control, and food preparation and storage.
- Current Minnesota ServSafe certification required.
- Computer proficiency required; including the ability to use e-mail, navigate the internet, and complete basic data entry in a database system.
- Demonstrated ability to plan well-balanced menus following FDA guidelines that stay within the allotted per-meal budgeted cost.
- Ability to work well with people from diverse racial, cultural, social and economic backgrounds.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 35 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb (ascend and descend) flights of stairs.
- Other lifting or physical requirements as added from time to time, or as required to perform the essential functions of this position.
Compensation and Benefits:Rate of pay is $20-22/hour depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include health and dental insurance, 403b plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, ten paid holidays and PTO (paid time off).
