Job Summary:

The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks in a safe, timely, and presentable manner. The Cook also keeps the kitchen and dining areas clean, organized, and properly stocked.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Plan and prepare meals and snacks according to established schedules.
• Cook and serve food using safe and proper food-handling practices.
• Prepare enough food for the number of people being served.
• Serve meals in a neat and presentable manner.
• Prepare plates for individuals who may need additional assistance.
• Set up tables or buffet areas for meal service.
• Clean tables, chairs, floors, dishes, utensils, kitchen equipment, and appliances.
• Properly store, refrigerate, and freeze food.
• Check expiration dates and properly dispose of expired food.
• Prepare snacks and meals for individuals eating outside regular meal times.
• Keep the kitchen and dining areas clean and sanitary.
• Follow health, safety, sanitation, and personal hygiene requirements.
• Maintain an organized inventory of food and kitchen supplies.
• Order and receive food and kitchen supplies as needed.
• Review invoices for accuracy and submit them for processing.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of experience preparing food for large groups, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• No specific license or certification is required.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Knowledge of proper cooking and food preparation methods.
• Knowledge of meal planning, food storage, and kitchen sanitation.
• Ability to prepare nutritious and safe meals for large groups in a timely manner.
• Ability to properly clean kitchen equipment and utensils.
• Ability to order supplies economically and maintain appropriate inventory.

Physical & Other Requirements:

• Must meet attendance requirements.
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
• Must be able to cook, taste, and smell food.
• Must be able to frequently stand and walk and occasionally kneel, squat, and sit.
• Must be able to work around hot stoves and ovens and cold refrigerators/freezers.
