Job summary

The Salvation Army in Mobile, AL is seeking a part-time Food Service worker to prepare, cook, and serve nutritious meals in a safe and presentable manner. Days and hours vary; approximately 28 hours per week.

Candidate should have a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of cooking for large groups, plus state food handling and Serv-Safe certifications. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED and be able to cook for large groups.
• One year of cooking experience for large groups or an equivalent combination of training.
• Food safety certifications required or ability to obtain Serv-Safe/State Food Handling.

Responsibilities

• Assists in preparation of meals. Stores, refrigerates, and freezes foods in a safe manner
• Cleans dining area. Cleans kitchen facilities and equipment. Maintains high degree of cleanliness in kitchen and dining area
• Maintain inventory of kitchen food and supplies to meet needs of kitchen. Receive donated goods and processes gifts-in-kind documentation.

Schedule/Hours: Days/hours vary; (28 hours per week)

This position is responsible for:

Prepares, cooks and serves nutritional meals and snacks in accordance with established guidelines and schedules. Ensures meals are prepared and served in a safe and presentable manner.

Key Responsibilities

• Assists in preparation of meals. Stores, refrigerates, and freezes foods in a safe manner
• Cleans dining area. Cleans kitchen facilities and equipment. Maintains high degree of cleanliness in kitchen and dining area
• Maintain inventory of kitchen food and supplies to meet needs of kitchen. Receive donated goods and processes gifts-in-kind documentation.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Work is performed in a normal kitchen environment where there may be limited physical discomforts associated with working around hot stoves/ovens or cold freezers.
• Ability to lift objects weighing 25-50 pounds on a frequent basis.
• Ability to cook, taste, and smell food.
• Duties are usually performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU
