Job summary

Meriwether Godsey is hiring a full-time Cook in Newtown, PA to prepare, cook, and present daily meals and special events at George School. The role is a 9-month, hourly position with a $21.00 hourly wage and a $250 sign-on bonus after 90 days of employment.

Typical schedule is Monday–Friday, 6am–2pm, with some weekends. Requires FBI background check, a skills assessment, and a High School diploma or equivalent. Prior kitchen experience and ServSafe certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• Must pass FBI background check.
• Must pass a skills assessment.
• Prior cook experience preferred in production kitchen or contract dining.
• ServSafe certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of food.
• Follow recipes and adjust methods to maintain quality and efficiency.
• Cook and store foods at required temperatures; maintain food safety standards.
• Assist with organization and sanitation of storage areas and coolers.
• Attend production meetings and contribute ideas on leftovers utilization and efficiency.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Meriwether Godsey is looking for a Full-time Cook responsible for the preparation, cooking, and presentation of daily meals and special events at George School, a boarding and day school for students in grades 9-12 in Newtown, PA.

Apply between 9/11/26 and 9/30/26. If hired, you will receive a $250 sign-on bonus after completing 90 days of employment.

• Must be able to work as follows: Monday-Friday, 6a-2p, with some weekends

What the Cook will do:

• Participate in the preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, cereals, soups, sauces, fruits, bread, desserts, and other food items
• Prepare items in batches as close to serving time as possible to ensure quality and limit over-production using good judgment in timing to ensure service without interruption
• Follow recipes and recommend changes in recipes and cooking methods to improve products and ensure the highest quality food preparation and presentation
• Cook, maintain, and store all foods at/to the required temperatures
• Take and record temperatures, following all required food handling and sanitation standards to ensure food safetyMaintain accurate records of production amounts, attendance & left-over amounts to assist in efficient forecasting information
• Assist with the organization and sanitation of coolers, freezers, and storerooms: all items covered, labeled, and dated
• Attend production meetings daily, offering input concerning leftover utilization, efficiency, product quality, etc.
• Perform all duties in accordance with food safety and sanitation best practices
• Other duties, as assigned

What the Cook will need:

• Must be able to pass an FBI background check
• Pass a skills assessment
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience as a cook desired; production kitchen or contract dining experience ( 2-4 prior experience preferred)
• ServSafe® Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
• Experience with high-volume food service operations, preferably in school environments
• Ability to measure products and convert units of measure
• High levels of professionalism, strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Flexibility; ability to switch between locations and job duties
• Growing knowledge of sustainable practices
