Job summary

The Southwood is seeking an experienced Cook to join our culinary team and provide nutritious, high-quality meals to residents.

Essential duties include preparing meals, serving on schedule, maintaining a clean kitchen, collaborating with staff, managing inventory, and accommodating resident preferences while adhering to safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior cooking experience in senior living, healthcare, or restaurant settings preferred.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations; able to follow recipes and meal plans.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; compassionate toward the elderly.

Responsibilities

  • Food Preparation: cook meals per menus, ensuring nutrition, taste, and dietary needs.
  • Meal Service: serve meals promptly with quality, portion control, and presentation.
  • Kitchen Maintenance: keep kitchen clean, sanitary, and properly stocked per procedures.
  • Team Collaboration: work with Dietary Manager and staff; train new kitchen staff as needed.
  • Inventory Control: assist with stock management and report shortages to Dietary Manager.
  • Resident Engagement: accommodate dietary requests and preferences to ensure satisfaction.
  • Regulatory Compliance: follow health and safety regulations and sanitation practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Food Preparation: Prepare and cook meals according to menu plans, ensuring food is nutritious, appetizing, and prepared according to dietary requirements and resident preferences.
  • Meal Service: Ensure meals are served in a timely manner, maintaining high standards of quality, portion control, and presentation.
  • Kitchen Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment by following food safety and sanitation procedures. Ensure proper storage and handling of food supplies.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Dietary Manager and kitchen staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations and quality service. Assist in training new kitchen staff as needed.
  • Inventory Control: Assist with inventory management and help track food supplies. Report shortages or order needs to the Dietary Manager.
  • Resident Engagement: Respond to special dietary requests and accommodate residents’ food preferences, ensuring satisfaction with meals served.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to health and safety regulations, including safe food handling and proper sanitation practices.
