  • Follow dietary guidelines, ensuring meals meet nutrition standards and accommodate any dietary restrictions, allergies, or preferences (e.g., vegetarian, gluten-free).
  • Ensure all food is prepared fresh and served in appropriate portion sizes for young children.
  • Manage kitchen inventory, including ordering ingredients and supplies, ensuring food is stored properly, and keeping track of expiration dates.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and sanitizing equipment.
  • Ensure proper food safety protocols are followed, including food storage, handling, and preparation, to minimize the risk of contamination and adhere to health regulations.
  • Compliance with Health and Safety Standards:
  • Follow state and local health regulations for food preparation, kitchen cleanliness, and sanitation.
  • Ensure compliance with food allergies, labeling, and handling procedures to ensure the safety of all children and staff.
  • Keep detailed records of meal plans, inventory, and any food-related concerns.
  • Collaboration with Staff:
  • Work closely with center staff to accommodate special dietary needs or preferences and adjust meal plans as necessary.
  • Assist in planning menus for the week or month, providing input on nutritious options that align with the center’s values and meet the children's developmental needs.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss meal planning, food-related issues, and center events where meals may be involved.
  • Faith-Based Integration:
  • As a Catholic-based center, be mindful of the faith and values that guide our work, ensuring meals are served in a manner that supports the well-being of children and the community.
  • Respect religious observances that may influence dietary practices (e.g., during Lent or feast days) and provide options that align with the faith.
  • Record Keeping and Documentation:
  • Maintain a clean and organized filing system for food orders, menus, and food-related reports.
  • Track food waste and work to minimize unnecessary food loss.
  • Ensure documentation of dietary needs, allergies, and food preferences for all children is up-to-date and accessible.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary degree or food service certification preferred.
  • Prior experience in food preparation and cooking, preferably in a school, daycare, or similar setting.

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, maintain kitchen cleanliness, and manage food safety standards.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Compassionate, patient, and understanding when working with young children.
  • Basic understanding of Catholic teachings and the ability to respect and reflect the values of the faith-based environment.

Personal Characteristics:

  • A passion for providing healthy, nutritious meals to children in a nurturing, faith-based environment.
  • Friendly and approachable with excellent communication skills, particularly with children and staff.
