Position Summary

The Cook prepares and serves quality meals for patients in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Life Care standards.

Education, Experience, And Licensure Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent
• One (1) year experience in food preparation preferred
• Experience in preparing and cooking food in large quantities

Specific Job Requirements

• Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
• Knowledgeable of practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines governing functions in a post-acute care facility
• Implement and interpret department programs, goals, policies, and procedures
• Perform proficiently in all competency areas including patient rights, safety, and sanitation
• Maintain professional relationships with all staff and vendors
• Maintain confidentiality of proprietary and confidential information
• Follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures
• Adhere to Life Care’s Code of Conduct and complete mandatory training

Essential Functions

• Prepare and serve appetizing meals appropriate for each patient
• Understand and accommodate ordered diets and food consistency
• Ensure food and supplies are ready for the next meal
• Serve meals and snacks promptly
• Use provided tools and recipes to prepare meals and snacks
• Provide excellent customer service with a positive attitude
• Assist in patient evacuation if needed
• Maintain dependable, regular attendance
• Use reasoning skills and good judgment
• Communicate effectively within an interdisciplinary team
• Perform physical activities such as sitting, standing, lifting, and walking during work hours
• Read, write, speak, and understand English
