Job summary

Allina Health in Shakopee, MN is seeking a Cook to prepare meals for patients, staff and guests. You will follow standardized recipes, ensure proper cooking and food safety, and support restocking and menus as needed.

This role is 0.6 FTE with an 8-hour day/evening shift and every-other weekend rotation. Union contract and benefits apply, with opportunities for growth within dietary services.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience to meet required functional competencies per job description.
• High school diploma or GED preferred; additional culinary degree is a plus.
• Certification for Food Safety and Handling preferred at hire.
• Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Prepares food in a timely, appealing and appetizing manner for patients, staff and customers.
• Follows standardized recipes and proper cooking methods.
• Maintains food safety by checking temperatures and labeling/storing items correctly.
• May assist with restocking station, menu development and inventory.

Job Description

Responsible for the preparation of all food served to patients, staff and customers. Uses proper cooking, cooling and reheating techniques to ensure food safety.

Principle Responsibilities

• Prepares food in a timely, appealing and appetizing manner.
  • Prepares food using standardized recipes and proper cooking methods for patients, staff and special functions.
  • Adequate quantities of food are prepared based on patient need and cafeteria volumes.
  • Understands special diets and consults with dietitian as needed.
• Uses proper cooking, cooling and reheating techniques to ensure food safety.
  • Checks temperatures regularly prior to serving food.
  • Labels, dates, covers and store food properly.
  • Utilizes sanitizing techniques for food, self and equipment.
• May assist in restocking work station.
  • May assist in putting away grocery orders.
  • May operate cash register.
  • May assist with menu development.
  • May maintain adequate food stock to meet the menu requirements and patient requests.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies as listed on the job description

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Associate’s or Vocational degree in the culinary field
• 0 to 2 years of food service experience

Licenses/Certifications

• Certification for Food Safety and Handling upon hire preferred

Physical Demands

• Medium Work:
• Lifting weight up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 25 lbs. frequently

Pay Range

Pay Range: $21.58 to $29.06 per hour

The pay described reflects the base hourly pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
