Job Description

Maintain the kitchen and cooking area in a safe, orderly, clean, and sanitary manner.

Prepare tasteful meals and cook a variety of foods in large quantities, following prepared menus and portion control guides.

Prepare special diets accurately and record food temperatures for meals. Prepare pureed foods as needed.

Work cooperatively with personnel in all departments, maintain quaternary solution in sanitizer buckets, assist with serving meals, and clean cooking areas and serving carts.

Report resident care concerns and potential issues to the Administrator and/or Director of Nurses. Participate in the orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.

Make food presentation appealing to residents and cooperate effectively with team members. Supervise staff in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor and ensure all cleaning schedules are followed.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience as a cook in a hospital or long-term care facility.
  • Ability to read technical procedures and follow recipes.
  • Effective communication skills to present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to interpret various instructions.
  • Must obtain and maintain a ServSafe Certificate and remain in good standing with the Department of Public Health.
Physical Demands

Frequent standing, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling, talking, smelling, and tasting. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Good vision and focus ability.

Work Environment

Low to moderate noise level. Reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
