Job summary

Wellspace Health in Sacramento, CA is looking for a Cook to prepare menus, meals, and maintain clean kitchen facilities. The ideal candidate will have a High School Diploma and related experience in a commercial kitchen.

You will ensure compliance with health standards while meeting the nutritional needs of patients, as well as educating them on kitchen sanitization.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare menus at least two weeks in advance for review and approval by Center Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with commercial kitchen license through Sacramento County Environmental Management Department.
  • Prepare meals which meet the nutritional needs of our patients.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen facilities and equipment.

Skills

Knowledge of related cooking tools, materials, methods and practices
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Knowledge of basic mathematics

Position Summary

The Cook prepares menus and meals, maintains inventory, and cleans and maintains kitchen facility and equipment. The Cook provides training and education to the patients on kitchen sanitization, food storage, and proper food portions.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One-year related experience in a commercial kitchen, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
  • Knowledge of related cooking tools, materials, methods and practices
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Serve Safe Certificate
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics
  • Ability to plan and organize work schedule logically
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to adhere to rigid sanitary standards
Essential Responsibilities
  • Prepare menus at least two weeks in advance for review and approval by Center Manager
  • Ensure compliance with commercial kitchen license through Sacramento County Environmental Management Department
  • Establish sources which meet quality standards and budget guidelines for necessary supplies
  • Maintain an acceptable inventory of all needed items
  • Prepare meals which meet the nutritional needs of our patients
  • Ensure that patients with specific nutritional requirements are provided with the necessary accommodation
  • Clean and maintain kitchen facilities and equipment
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The work environment is characteristic of an office environment. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level is usually quiet.

The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances, and/or not attentive to personal health and safety. The employee may experience unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care. The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
