FT Cook for Rescue Mission

Since 1952, Light of Life Rescue Mission has been a safe refuge for homeless and hurting people in the Pittsburgh area. We are seeking a full‑time Cook to be a part of the Mission's exciting growth as we offer food services at multiple sites.

As well as preparing food, this individual plays a vital role working alongside residential guests, overseeing and teaching them basic food service and kitchen operations.

Responsibilities
  1. Cooking and warming meals according to meal plan
  2. Maintaining kitchens at multiple sites per direction of supervisor
  3. Functioning as a caterer, delivering food by driving Light of Life vehicles.
  4. Ability to adapt and thrive during peak times of meal prep and service
  5. Working alongside residential guests assigned to Meal Ministry
  6. Oversee work of volunteers and interns

Requirements and Certifications

Education & Experience

  • Previous cooking experience
  • Additional coursework in food service or culinary arts preferred
  • Previous experience with commercial kitchen equipment helpful
  • An understanding of addiction issues and homelessness a plus
