Qualifications

• Prior cooking or food service experience required.
• Experience in skilled nursing facility, long-term care, hospital, or healthcare food service setting preferred.
• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, proper food handling, and kitchen safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals per planned menus, recipes, diet orders, and policies.
• Assist with meals for residents on regular and modified diets as directed.
• Ensure meals are prepared and served in a timely, appealing, resident-centered manner.
• Follow sanitation, infection control, and safety procedures at all times.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen and prep area.
• Monitor food temperatures, storage, and quality per procedures and regulations.
• Assist with receiving, storing, labeling, and rotating food and supplies.
• Communicate with Dietary Supervisor, Dietitian, nursing staff, and team members.
• Report needs or safety concerns to Dietary Supervisor.
• Promote a positive, resident-centered, team-oriented culture.

Job Summary:

Overland Park Respiratory & Rehab Center is seeking a dependable and motivated Cook to join our dietary team. The Cook plays an important role in supporting resident health, comfort, and satisfaction by preparing nutritious, high-quality meals in accordance with facility menus, resident diet orders, food safety standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.

The ideal candidate is reliable, organized, team-oriented, and committed to providing excellent service to residents in a skilled nursing facility setting.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and cook meals in accordance with planned menus, standardized recipes, resident diet orders, portion control guidelines, and facility policies.
• Assist in preparing meals for residents with regular, modified, therapeutic, texture-modified, and special diets as directed.
• Ensure meals are prepared and served in a timely, attractive, and resident-centered manner.
• Follow proper food handling, sanitation, infection control, and safety procedures at all times.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen and food preparation area.
• Monitor food temperatures, storage practices, and food quality in accordance with facility procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with receiving, storing, labeling, and rotating food and supplies.
• Communicate effectively with the Dietary Supervisor, Dietitian, nursing staff, and other facility team members.
• Report food supply needs, equipment concerns, safety issues, or resident meal concerns to the Dietary Supervisor.
• Promote a positive, accountable, resident-centered, and team-oriented culture.

Requirements:

• Prior cooking or food service experience required.
• Prior experience in a skilled nursing facility, long-term care, assisted living, hospital, or healthcare food service setting preferred.
• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, proper food handling, and kitchen safety practices.
• Ability to follow menus, recipes, diet instructions, portion guidelines, and facility procedures.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Salary Range: $19-$21 hourly, based on experience.
