Position Overview
S:US is seeking a Cook for their adult families shelter located in Manhattan. This position is located at East 31 Sreet New York, NY 10016. Salary range is USD $43,000.00 to $48,019.00 per year.
SCOPE OF ROLE
The Cook will assist in the management and monitoring of all aspects of the development of a nutritious daily menu and meal preparation for homeless individuals, including those with special diets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare low-fat, low-sodium, vegetarian, and soft meal options to meet special dietary and medically prescribed needs of residents.
- Assist in managing and performing food and equipment ordering and inventory.
- Handle and store food safely and sanitary in accordance with New York State and New York City Department of Health regulations.
- Supervise kitchen area general cleanliness, equipment, utensils, and supplies, and instruct inexperienced trainees.
- Assist in implementing a Daily Cooking and Nutrition training curriculum for Shelter Residents to prepare them for independent living.
- Attend staff meetings, case conferences, group supervision, and trainings as needed.
- Train residents in basic nutrition, meal preparation, food handling and storage, kitchen cleanliness, and equipment maintenance, according to NYC and NYS DOH guidelines and program requirements.
- Comply with and enforce SUS Corporate Compliance and Employee Policies, Procedures, and Protocols.
- Comply with SUS Incident Management Policies, Procedures, and Protocols as appropriate.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Food Service Director and/or Program Director.
- Work schedule includes some weekend and evening hours and additional shifts as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- NY State Food Handlers Certificate required; additional nutritional training and certificates preferred.
- A minimum of 1-year experience in all aspects of food preparation and kitchen management in a large institutional or commercial setting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
