Job summary

Meriwether Godsey is seeking a Cook for a full-time, 9-month position at a college preparatory school in Middleburg, Virginia. The role involves preparing and portioning meals for high-volume service, following recipes, and maintaining food safety standards.

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma, kitchen experience, ServSafe certification or ability to obtain, and the flexibility to work across locations. Benefits and meals are provided.

Qualifications

• Experience as a cook; production kitchen or contract dining preferred.
• ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Experience with high-volume food service, preferably in schools.
• Strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Flexibility to switch between locations and duties.
• Growing knowledge of sustainable practices.

Responsibilities

• Participate in preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of meat, fish, vegetables, soups, desserts and other items.
• Prepare items in batches to serving time to ensure quality and minimize over-production.
• Follow recipes and suggest improvements to enhance quality and presentation.
• Cook, maintain, and store foods at required temperatures.
• Record temperatures and follow sanitation standards for safety.
• Maintain production records and leftovers for forecasting.
• Organize and sanitize coolers, freezers and storerooms; items labeled and dated.
• Attend production meetings daily and discuss leftovers, efficiency and quality.
• Perform duties in line with food safety and sanitation best practices.
• Other duties as assigned.

Meriwether Godsey is looking for a Cook responsible for helping to prepare fabulous meals a t a beautiful college preparatory school located in the heart of scenic Middleburg, VA.

What the Cook will do:

• Participate in the preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, cereals, soups, sauces, fruits, bread, desserts, and other food items
• Prepare items in batches as close to serving time as possible to ensure quality and limit over-production using good judgment in timing to ensure service without interruption
• Follow recipes and recommend changes in recipes and cooking methods to improve products and ensure the highest quality food preparation and presentation
• Cook, maintain, and store all foods at/to required temperatures
• Take and record temperatures, following all required food handling and sanitation standards to ensure food safety
• Maintain accurate records of production amounts, attendance & leftover amounts to assist in efficient forecasting information
• Assist with the organization and sanitation of coolers, freezers, and storerooms: all items covered, labeled, and dated
• Attend production meetings daily, offering input concerning leftover utilization, efficiency, product quality, etc.
• Perform all duties in accordance with food safety and sanitation best practices
• Other duties, as assigned

What the Cook will need:

• Must provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination. Exemptions available upon request
  
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Experience as a cook desired; production kitchen or contract dining experience preferred
• ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
• Experience with high-volume food service operations, preferably in school environments
• Ability to measure products and convert units of measure
• High levels of professionalism, strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Flexibility; ability to switch between locations and job duties
• Growing knowledge of sustainable practices
