Job summary

Texas Health Mansfield is seeking a cook to prepare high-quality meals for patients, café service, and catering events, following established recipes and production sheets.

Maintain clean, sanitary workspaces per HACCP guidelines, and supervise portioning and batch cooking for patient and retail services. Collaborate with the FANS Coordinator to coordinate daily operations and ensure service expectations are met.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge about working in the food industry (Required).
  • Must read, write, and speak conversational English; understands food service terms.
  • Basic computer skills; MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedures.
  • Ability to write routine reports and communicate with team.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates.
  • Strong math skills for portioning and yields.
  • Ability to use food production systems and interpret data.
  • Ability to follow written or verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook high-quality meals for patients, café, and catering.
  • Update menus, recipes, and production records with leadership input.
  • Maintain HACCP-compliant, sanitary workspaces and verify temperatures.
  • Oversee production, portions, and batch cooking for patient and retail services.
  • Coordinate daily operations with the FANS Coordinator and team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Description:

**This position is for Days, Early Evenings and Some Weekends**


Prepare and cook high-quality, visually appealing meals for patients, café service, and catering events, following established recipes and production sheets. Create and update menus, recipes, and production records in collaboration with leadership to support dietary compliance and operational efficiency. Maintain clean and sanitary workspaces, equipment, and storage areas by following HACCP guidelines and recording temperatures accurately. Oversee food production activities, ensuring proper portioning, batch cooking, and adherence to culinary standards for both patient and retail services. Communicate effectively with the FANS Coordinator and team members to coordinate daily operations, resolve issues, and ensure service expectations are consistently met. Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Knowledge about working in the food industry [Required]

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak conversational English and understand food service terms [Required]

  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) [Required]

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals [Required]

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence [Required]

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of the organization [Required]

  • Proficient in basic math skills; ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals [Required]

  • Competence in computing rate, ratio, and percent and interpreting bar graphs [Required]

  • Possesses necessary skills to effectively operate automated food production systems [Required]

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form [Required]

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations [Required]


Education:


  • Associate [Preferred]


Work Experience:


  • 1+ cook experience within a healthcare system [Required]


Licenses and Certifications:


  • Certified Food Safety Manager (CFSM) [Preferred]
