Job summary

Milton Hershey School (MHS) is seeking a full‑time Cook to join our Food Services team. The Cook will prepare nutritious meals and support dining across campus, including dining halls, residences, and health center.

The role emphasizes safety, service, and engaging with a diverse community of students and staff. The position operates year‑round on a Monday–Friday flex schedule with potential weekend shifts and overtime.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Prior cook experience in a commercial kitchen.
  • Culinary/catering/cooking experience required.
  • Valid NSF Serv Safe Certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • HACCP training.
  • Must be physically able to lift up to 50+ pounds frequently.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with a diverse group of people.

Job description

Milton Hershey School (MHS) is one of the world’s best pre‑K through 12th grade private schools, where approximately 2,200 students from disadvantaged backgrounds are provided with a cost‑free home and a top‑notch education. Thanks to the generosity of Milton and Catherine Hershey in 1909, the school is fully endowed today, with the resources to ensure students can thrive. The school has prepared over 12,000 graduates to lead fulfilling and productive lives and is expanding to serve more students.

MHS is seeking a full‑time Cook to join our Food Services team. This role offers a unique opportunity to prepare nutritious, high quality meals while engaging with a diverse community of students and adults. The Cook supports a broad range of responsibilities essential to the efficient operation of the Food Service Department, including meal preparation, service, and maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment.

This service‑oriented position contributes directly to providing exceptional dining experiences across campus, including dining halls, student residences, the health center, catered functions, and special events. Responsibilities include preparing appealing and wholesome meals, fulfilling menu orders, adhering to food safety and sanitation standards, and supporting the overall well‑being of students and staff.

Work Schedule: this is a year‑round, Monday – Friday flex ‑ shift position. Weekend shifts may be required as part of the flex schedule model, and overtime may be necessary. Full‑time status consists of 40 scheduled hours per week with a minimum of two (2) days off. Weekly shifts may include any combination of the following:

  • 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • 8:30 a.m. – 5:0 p.m.
  • 11:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Compensation & Benefits: this position is part of Bargaining Local Union 464 with an hourly rate of $33.54, plus any applicable shift differential. Full‑time employees are eligible for an excellent benefits package, including:

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.

Prior experience as a cook in a commercial kitchen environment & knowledge of modern methods of food preparation, health codes and sanitation principles.

Culinary/catering/cooking experience required.

Valid NSF Serv Safe Certification or ability to obtain within six months upon hire.

HACCP training.

Physically capable of lifting, moving, and/or carrying up to 50+ pounds on a frequent basis.

Ability to maintain accurate records and follow instructions; understand and carry out oral and written communication.

Ability to interact and communicate with a diverse group of adults and children.

Candidates must demonstrate a high degree of integrity, as all MHS Staff are role models for MHS Students.

Candidates must be willing to actively engage with MHS Students.
