Job summary

Creative Dining Services is seeking a Part-Time Cook for Kirtland Community College in Grayling, Michigan. You’ll join a supportive culinary team to prepare fresh, flavorful meals while maintaining high standards for quality, safety, and sanitation.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years cooking experience, works well in a fast-paced kitchen, and demonstrates dependable teamwork. ServSafe certification is preferred/required as applicable.

• Strong focus on food safety and sanitation.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Team player with good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare delicious, high-quality food according to established recipes and menus.
• Time food production so meals are fresh and ready when service begins.
• Use batch cooking techniques to maintain freshness and minimize food waste.
• Properly season, prepare, portion, and present food to established standards.
• Follow safe food handling practices at all times.
• Maintain proper food temperatures and follow food safety procedures.
• Label, date, store, and rotate food according to established standards.
• Complete required production and temperature logs.
• Keep the kitchen, equipment, and work areas clean, organized, and sanitary.
• Follow all safety procedures and use protective equipment when needed.
• Monitor kitchen equipment and report any issues promptly.
• Assist with opening and/or closing the kitchen when required.
• Help with inventory, ordering, stocking, and pulling supplies.
• Remove refuse and help keep the kitchen and storage areas organized.
• Communicate production needs and equipment issues to management.
• Support teammates to keep the kitchen running smoothly.
• Contribute to a positive, respectful, team-focused work environment.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in their work and understands that great food starts with great teamwork!

We're looking for someone who has:

• At least 2 years of cooking experience preferred.

• A passion for preparing and serving quality food.

• The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen.

• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

• Dependability and a positive attitude.

• Attention to detail and a commitment to food safety.

• The ability to follow recipes, menus, and established procedures.

• A High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required.

• ServSafe Certification preferred/required as applicable.
